What the six bars mean

Start: The break from the gate.
Corner: Holding a line through the turns.
Out of the box: Early speed to the first turn.
Competing: Fighting for room in the pack.
Tenacious: Staying on when the pace bites.
Spurt: The finishing kick.

The six bars are inherited starting strengths. Feeding and workouts improve fitness. A special ability is born, not made: it comes down from the sire or the mare by chance, most foals get none, and nothing we buy or train changes it.
